This blog is about motherhood- what it means and how it is represented. There are posts about celebrity moms and how their roles as mothers are incorporated into their media images. There are posts about fictional characters in movies or on TV whose parenting affects their representation. There are also posts about everyday women and how their choices to become or not become mothers are being judged in the press. Motherhood is kind of controversial these days, it seems, and what makes a good mother is even more so. I also discuss the relationship between motherhood and female power, both today and in the past, to put these media representations into a clearer context.
